Define goes off.
Is the backlight staying lit when it does this?

If not, could be a loose connection or a failing backlight.

If the driver was flaked, you wouldn't see much of a display at all.

Check your BIOS settings for the power down on the screen for saving power. Do that for Windows also. Might just be set to a low time period and is shutting off.

I agree with BFilmFan.

Sounds like a bad connection or possibly fraying ribbon cable connecting the LCD and motherboard. See if movement has any effect on it. Try opening and closing the lid a few times and see what you get.

Can you see anything at all when it goes off? Sometimes if it's a backlight issue you may see a "ghost" image appear on the screen.
