Toshiba Laptop Has crashed ( dealing w/ system 32 problem)

by charlesvanriper . Updated 18 years, 10 months ago

I was working on a program last night, and walked away for 10 minutes when I returned the system had sut down and so I rebooted the screen came up black with the following messege.
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt;
System32\Drivers\NTFS.sys

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup CD-ROM.
select R at the first screen to start repair.

I have done everything I know to try and it all comes back to this messege, I am sure I have to reload the windows XP Home disk,
I just hope that is the problem. Any ideas would help me solve this.

runninig windows XP home on a protege R100 Toshiba Laptop.
with Norton internet security
no CD-ROM with a 40 gig harddrive

I wonder if the system might have overheated since this laptop really has a heating problem, and if this did cause the damage to this file I hope its repairable.
