Toshiba Laptop Not recovering...

By missdiva2107 ·
So here it goes.....I have a toshiba satellite A105 laptop. The laptop fell and i replaced the hard drive because the BIOS screen was basically saying that there was no hard drive. Now I have the new hard drive in and when I run the recovery disc it goes for approx. 7 min then a screen comes up with an error messag ERROR: 1004240000
Recovery Error
Please press [ok] to turn off the computer.

Not sure what is going on or why this happening. The disc is in fine condition.

ANY help would be appreciated at this point. I used the laptop for only 3 months!!!!

Check BIOS again

by dlandmesser In reply to Toshiba Laptop Not recove ...

A good first step would be to check the BIOS to make sure it sees the new hard drive. If it does, see what the recovery disk is doing. You might need to partition/format the drive before using the recovery disk, depending on how crappy it is. I would suggest borrowing a WinXP disk from a friend and partitioning/formatting the drive. Then try the recovery disk again. If that doesn't work, try installing Windows off the XP CD and use your CD key off the laptop when prompted (if available).

Also, if the hard drive has jumpers on it, make sure they are set to "Primary" or "Master" or soemthing like that.

Did you get a compatible HDD?

I did

The hdd is actually a Toshiba brand 120G hdd. The original was a 100G. I put it in myself (with safe handling). It was very simple.

Have you called Toshiba support?

by ComputerCookie In reply to I did

There must over 20 versions of A105 so it's hard to get accurate specs and manual!

I did call..

by missdiva2107 In reply to Have you called Toshiba s ...

A105-s4284 is the exact model. So yes i did call them and the error code they said means that there is a "bad sector" in the BRAND NEW HDD......so that's why i am a little confused....

I've searched for a hard disk tool

by ComputerCookie In reply to I did call..

however, Toshiba provides no support see below;
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=10&platform=Windows.

Would suggest you take it back to the supplier. There are tools to lowlevel format or so called repair disks, but I'd take the disk back if you run one of these without having a supported tool you may void the warranty.
