Toshiba laptop recovery disc fails to reinstall to factory default

I cannot restore my Toshiba laptop to factory default using recovery CD. The first CD goes well but with the second CD, at around 50% completion, it gives an error message saying that a certain data file is lost. When I click OK the operation stops and CD ejects out. Instead of factory default option, if I choose to partition (10 GB out of 186 GB)the hard disk, I can by pass the first error message but then end up with another one at around 70% completion reporting another missing file. The more I increase the the partion size the later (in terms of % completion) I get an error message each time reporting the loss of a totally different file. Finally, however, I could overcome the problem and got a full restore when I choosed to increase the partition size to 36 GB. I was so happy ….but only to find that my system is extremely unstable to the point that whwnever I want do anything, even copying a file from a backup CD or download a file, the laptop starts the process only to go totally blackout in the middle of the process. I tried restarting the computer several times but the problem persists. When I cantacted toshiba support they suggest to try new recov CD and if that doesn’t solve then to take my laptop to authorized dealer to check for hardware faults. Can anyone tell me what’s actually going on? Is it a software or a hardware problem? Do you think a new CD can solve the problem?
