    Toshiba Satellite 416CS sleep mode

    Locked

    by dlw6 ·

I have a Toshiba Satellite 416CS that someone FDISKed and reinstall Win95, and now the sleep mode no longer works. The “Companion CD” is long gone so it can’t help.

I know that most laptops put a tiny partition on the HDD to save the current state in order to go into sleep mode, and to fix it I have to create that partition again. Can anyone provide me with the instructions to set this up? I need to know where to put the partition (before or after the system partition), how large, whether it should be active, what special software, if any, is required, and where to find such software.

The machine works fine as it is, minus the sleep mode, but I’d be willing to FDISK again if that’s what it takes.

    Thanks,
    Don

Well there are a few semi-simple solutions to the problem, from my exerience with Tosh. You can :
A( upgrade to 98 or ME. I had no problems with the sleep mode that and Power management that is included with those.

B( contact Toshiba. Mostof the actual sleep and hybernations software for laptops is extremely proprietory. The upgrade solution above is a simple fix but may not be the way the manafacturer inteded it to work. If the software isn’t actualy on the web site they do ofer recovery CD’s for (don’t quote me on this) around $12-15. And to be quite honest that is your best bet.

Thanks for your answer. It’s not one that can help me, since I don’t own Win98/ME and wouldn’t take it unless MS gave it away for free. I’m sure the SW is on the Toshiba web site somewhere, but like most tech support sites you have to know the right keywords.

Upgrade to Win2k, it has a very nice hibernate mode in it that is wonderful.
i always found sleep mode on my win9x installs crashed the laptop (Tosh) but 2000 is sweet. and isnt as hard on the system as people say, i have a 4 GB drive in my tosh and am dual booting between Win98 and 2000 (rarely use 98 but have it just incase) and i it still works fine with no real loss of performance.

failing that i believe you can download the necessary software from the toshiba website. 🙂

Thanks for your answer. The 415CS has a P-75 processor and, despite my upgrading it to 40MB RAM, I don’t think Win2K is a workable option. The Toshiba web site doesn’t have the SW I need either.

You probably did not lose any tiny partition, just the manufacturer supplied setup programs. There are two files available from Toshiba that you should download. The ‘tsetup.exe’ which installs the cmos/bios setup program and the other file is thehardware setup program and is called 410utils.exe. Both can be found on Toshiba’s web site under portables/support. If you plan to upgrade to windows 98 or 2k, you should first check for bios upgrade. I suggest following Toshiba instructions for upgrade. They have complete information and files to download that will make your laptop perform its best.

      good luck
