Total pages while faxing break

I have to fax this report. Its made in rtf, with XML publisher .
I want to add one to total number of pages.
requirement is:
on the cover letter letter
——–
total number of pages including cover letter :
{ NUMPAGES+1 \* MERGEFORMAT} //this doesnt work 🙁

please suggest some solution.
