TR pages blank in Mozilla

I’m a new Linux user running Red Hat 9 with Mozilla 1.2.1 from inside a corporate firewall and proxy server.

On my first attempt to reach TR with this system, I find some pages do not display. Specifically, “My Blog” and “My Discussions” result in grey pages. “My Tech Q&A” works well enough for me to enter this question, and “My Discussions” displays normally.

Yes, I know there are other browsers available, and I plan to eventually install Firefox. However, I think there is something to learn from attempting to fix Mozilla before I replace it.

Please let me know if I haven’t provide enough information to solve this problem, and thanks in advance for any offered solutions.

I also notice that those pages that do display often do not do so properly. This page has the right-hand advertising column overlapping the right side of the central content area.

While not on Linux, I have used Mozilla, Firefox and Sea Monkey to view TR for years with no issues.

One issue for you might be your out of date version of Mozilla. The current version is 1.7.12 or 13.
The bad news is, that Mozilla is no longer being worked on as an active project.

The current full Internet suite is Project Sea Monkey which is at version 1.0.2

An issue specific to TR may be plug-ins.
You need Java and Flash for a lot of web content that is available these days. For the Mozilla family of browsers, you need to install these plug-ins separately.

Thanks. I’ve looked at TR with FF on two different XP boxes without any problem so I suspect your plug-ins theory is correct.

It looks like installing the plug-ins won’t be any easier or harder than replacing RH9’s Mozilla 1.2.1 with the current version of Firefox. I’m going to abandon the attempt to patch Mozilla and concentrate on learning to install apps, with FF being the trial program.
