Tracing cause of error filling Event Log

By Geep ·
I'm having trouble in tracing the cause of the following error, being recorded every second and rapidly filling the Event Log.
>---------------------------------
Event id: 7000
Source: Service Control Manager
Type: Error
Catagory: None
---------------------------------
The System Event Notification service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.
---------------------------------<

Anyone got any ideas ?

You need to find out why this service - the System Event Notification service - is installed on your server and why it's not starting. It looks to me like someone uninstalled the software but failed to remove the service. If you check your Services, I'll bet you will find that the executable file for this service no longer exists on the hard drive.

If it's something that you no longer need and it has been uninstalled, but the service somehow didn't get removed, you can remove it manually. Article #140415 on the Microsoft Support web site describes how to manually remove a service.

Hope this helps!

The problem is finding which service is not starting, especially as the error message gives no help.

I did trace the cause in the end, it was as you suggested a partially installed app, AVG in this case.

Using task manager an watching what processes were busiest, I ended them one by one until activity lessened, a bit chancy, but it worked.
