Training Suggestions

By kendiv ·
I am an Application Support Analyst at a Hospital Corp. supporting clinical apps throughout the enterprise. Besides some IT college courses the only training I have had is from the vendors that we lease our applications from ? mainly McKesson Information Solutions.

Moving forward, I want to bolster my technical skills/knowledge so I may be more marketable in the future.

Question: What kind of training and/or certification I should be seeking out? I want to continue on the application support path however I want to understand the more technical aspects of the IT environments.

I am currently working on a college degree in Computer Information System.

You have a good start by earning a relevant degree. This is such a fast paced industry that professionals have to keep improving themselves (through formal or informal means of learning) to maintain/improve their marketability. No one certification can provide one with a rosy future. Just as in application support from the mainframe age to client/server and now to web, technology changes. My advise is to develope a good foundation on application development and you will probably find many more opportunities as your experience grows.
