Transfer between to servers/gig nics.

By stngfan1 ·
I have two servers, that have both a 10/100 nic and a gig nic. I want to connect the two gig nics together with a crossover cable. I want to be able to transfer a large file over this connection only. I want to keep the 10/100 connected to the LAN for everyone else to access.

I've assigned the gig nics 10.200 addresses and a 24 bit subnet. The 10/100 nics are on the 172 addresses with a 24 bit mask. I map drives to the ip address instead of the server names. However when I transfer thefile, it takes the same amount of time it does over the 10/100 nics.

How can I get this to work?

TM.

For my reassurance if I was trying this I would first check the status of the gig nic to see if it shows gig speed connection. I would also temporarily disable first nic to confirm which path the file was transfering through.
