Transfer programs from C to D drive

This isn’t a Hardware related question but I usually get better responses when I post my questions here. Anyway, I have two questions.

Question: I have a laptop with Windows NT Workstation. The drive has two partitions, C:\ and D:\. On the C:\ drive there is only 40MB of free space. On the D:\ drive I have about 4GB of free space.

I want to transfer the files (programs and data) to the D:\ drive to free up space on the C:\ drive. What do I have to do to complete that task? Do I have to uninstall the programs on the C:\ drive and reinstall them onto the D:\ drive or can I just move the program files from the C:\ drive to the D:\ drive? I would imagine moving the files would require me to change the registry path for each program I move. Perhaps there is a program that will do all the work for me. Anyone know of a program that will do that (don’t even say “format”)?

One more thing to note; the C:\ drive is a fat32 partition and the D:\ drive is a NTFS partition. (I know what you?re thinking, and NO! I wasn’t the brains behind that configuration).

Next Question; I need to defragment both drives and I’m getting ready to install Norton Utilities to perform that task. I’m going to install the program on the D:\ drive (seeing as though there is no room on C:\). Can I defragment both C and D even though they use different partition formats?

Well, there it is. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
