Travelstar Hard drive

By lavardo ·
I had a Dell laptop from 2003ish that died recently. I'm pretty sure the hard drive is still good and would like to retrieve some of the data from the drive. I also have a USB -> IDE device. The tavelstar drive has the same amount of ide pins, but the 4 power pins are laid out 2x2 instead of the larger 4x1 pins. I'm looking for any information on how to connect the drive to my usb device, even if I'm running the power cables individually, soldering some little wires or whatever. Hope someone out there has some input or references! Thanks tons! :-)

Laptop Hard Drive Power Issue

by jamesjv In reply to Travelstar Hard drive

If you are using an IDE to USB adapter, the power pins aren't used for a laptop (2.5")drive. That size drive gets all of its power from the USB port. The power connector that comes with the adapter is only for the larger (3.5") drives.
