By techgirl75 ·
Hello. I just received an alert that computer was infected with Trojan.virtualroot virus.. tried to quarantine infected file. no luck.. tried to delete...said file was in use or cannot be deleted from windows. Name of file explorer.exe .. in C: root directory.. file is like 8kb.. NOT the file that normally resides in WIN directory on this win2000 machine. Any suggestions, please?

If you are running Windows 98, try rebooting the PC and going to a dos prompt. Make sure you are in the Root first just incase. So type in "cd \" to make sure. Once there type in "del explorer.exe".

This should delete the file.

I suggest you download a demo of a well respected virus scan program (Norton or VShield) and run that program. This is just a guess, I'm not a virus expert.
