I have NT4.0 SP6a loaded on my Gateway P3/733.
This has a CDROM and a Philips CD writer.
When I boot the machine, for about 3 hours,
both CDROM drives can be accessed fine. Then
usually the G drive (CD writer) stops responding and the event Q fills up with the following errors:
1. “atapi”: The device, \Device\ScsiPort1, is not ready for access yet
2. “Cdrom”: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom1.
I was asked by Gateway to install ATAPI 1.2 driver which I did, and to set the service for Cdfs under devices to System. Gateway did not think that anything was wrong with the controller.
At some point, NT Explorer, and all file browsing functionality from MS Office applications hang – and I have to re-boot.
Ijust observed that the errors kick in after about 3 hours!
Any pointers/help would be appreciated.
Thanks
