Trouble Accessing LAN using Linksys Wireless Router and Broadband

I have a user who has a laptop and connects to our LAN from home using Roadrunner broadband and a wireless G router. When the wireless router is encrypted the VPN connection will not function. Would use of Cisco VPN client resolve these issues? Currently we use the VPN connection that is part of XP. Any help would be appreciated!
