trouble between two trusted domains

by chipw . Updated 22 years, 11 months ago

We have a mixed network – NT (pdc and bdc), W2k (file servers), and XP/NT/W2K workstations. A remote office has NT (pdc) and NT/W2K workstations. I can ping his network, he cannot ping most of my network. We are connected via DSL. I don’t know anything about the DSL setup, so I am assuming it is wide open between the two offices.

He can ping my PDC and BDC and two workstations only. I have 6 other servers and about 40 other ws’s he cannot ping. Of course they are all following the same network setup configuration.

He ran a tracert to a machine he cannot ping and got a response. He then was able to ping and get a response. He was then also able to open network neighborhood, see my entire network, and map a drive to the share drive onone server he couldn’t ping previously. He says this only works on the W2K boxes, not the NT boxes.

We both have a WINS server. The two boxes cannot ping each other, so WINS does not replicate as it should.

Could this be a WINS/DNS problem or is it something else entirely? Where do I begin?
