Looks like Torvalds got some of the Linux community upset over Bitkeeper.

Linus Torvalds is friends with the guy that "owns" the rights to Bitkeeper, and he has let that color his reaction to reverse-engineering the protocols and file formats BK uses. It's a surprising lapse in consistency of judgment, as far as I can tell.

I was being sarcastic, but I totally agree with what you are saying. Linus doesn't understand that Bitkeeper (in general) is bad for the open source community and is going to hurt what he and many others have been building for all these years.

I think you are right about Linus taking sides due to friendship rather than reality.
