Trouble Installing Modems

Greetings,

I have a Win98 PC that the user trashed the OS on. Although tweaking the OS did get everything back working again, the modem did not work. I then reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled everything. The modem is still not recognized.

I disabled the onboard port for com1 and windows now does not see a port for com1 and of course does not see the modem that the port should be using.

I swapped out two other modem, all three had conexant chips on them, and none of them work. If I re-enable the onboard com1 port windows does see it but won’t recognize the port on the modems.

I swapped the modem to another PCI slot and get the same results.

Any ideas?
