    TROUBLE Loading Software

    Locked

    by deskject ·

Please bear with me as I am learning as I go.
I ran into a problem the other day. I was trying to load some software on our work stations.(manily NT and a couple of windows 95)
I logged on as administrator to the work station, put in the cd and the program seem to install ok. When a student logged in and tried to acess the program they could not. They got a message “run time error. This same thing happened on a number of workstations. Next I got the student to log on and tried to make a shortcut from explorer, still couldn’t access the program. My last hope was to get the student to log on and install the software while logged on. I deleted the program and did a fresh install, still no luck. They couldn’t access the program and got the same run time error. The confusing thing about this is a couple of students had logged on earlier to other workstations and had no problems. What am I missing or doing wrong ?
Thanks for any help you can give

In reply to TROUBLE Loading Software

This can happen in nt as not all programs are created equal.
you are supposed to install with the administrater user and it should work but as you noticed it doesn’t work always.
Since you didn’t specify the program it’s hard to give a detailed answer.
In general you have to give access in the windows registry to the user:(regedt32)

      hkeylocalmachine\software\softwarename
and give full controll permissions to all users

second place to look for is the program files\softwarename
and give full control to all users.

and 3th access the website of the softwaremaker and search how to install it under nt so users can use the program or post a question to the suport team.

      Best of luck ,

      Leopold
