Trouble Opening Large Graphic File

By moon ·
HELP - I'm at my wits end. I was brought CD that has a 271MB tiff file on it. I believe it's a photo of town - but not sure. I need to open this file and print it. But every program I use will not open it. Either it's too large, too wide or "not enough storage is available to process this command. Unable to allocate memory" error (or versions of such). I have a 1Ghz computer, 15GB hard drive, 13GB free space & 192MB Ram.

I'm not sure it will help, but you could try increasing your virtual memory settings. A tiff file can be opened in Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia Fireworks. If you don't have one of these programs and only need a printout of the graphic, you could take the CD to Kinkos and get it printed there for a few dollars.

Good luck,
Suzy

Virtual Memory did not help. I had programs that open .tif but the file was too large for them to handle. I had to convert to PDF and then open in adobe. But thank you for the Kinko's tip - I called it's only $1/foot, so for my 48"x72" photo its under $10 -- thanx.
