TROUBLE with usb ports. please help.

By pfokho ·
each of my usb ports works fine when used individually but when more than one port is used only one of the usb devices works and the others dont. To be precise, all my drivers are updated and my pc is running under win 7 ultimate sp1. Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation :)

Well if you told us what type of computer you had

We may be able to offer some assistance as it sounds like some sort of Hardware problem.

So at a guess I would say that you need to plug in a Powered USB Hub as it doesn't sound as if there is enough power available at the USB Ports.

Are the Front Panel USB ports actually connected?

There are many systems where the case has Front USB Sockets but no connection on the M'Board is available so they simply do not work.

Even if the Front Panel Ports are connected because they are on a Fly Lead there are some devices which may not work with that type of connection and need to be directly plugged into the M'Board or a Hub that is Plugged into the M'Board.

Types of devices connected makes a difference.

Standard USB power output is 500mA, which handles most USB devices. With some types of scanners a power adapter must be connected in order for the device to work. Most devices with this type of need comes with the power adpater insert already on the cord. One instance I ran into was the cable I was using to power my phone appeared to be fine except were it had been pinched when I had closed my briefcase and internally it was shorting out causing a major power draw.

What kind of devices are you attaching?
