    Troublesome Compaq Keyboard

    Locked

    by luciano991 ·

A Compaq desktop refuses to boot. Monitor LED turns green then amber right away. I unplug Compaq USB keyboard and computer boots fine. I plug the keyboard back in and it works fine. I remove keyboard from device manager and click Refresh, keyboard installs correctly. Restart, all is well. Shut Down, however, and problem returns. What’s the deal.

It means your USB ports and your video adaptor are probably using the same IRQ (or memory addresses within the IRQ) and when the devices are heavily used, they conflict and the monitor does not function.

What OS are you using? What happens if you do not shutdown — are youable to use both devices until the next shutdown?

The OS is Windows 98. Everything works OK if you only restart and not shut down. All devices work once the OS boots up. You can actually over come the problem by shutting down, unplug the keyboard, boot up and plug the keyboard back in.
