Trust Relationshop

By russellrl2 ·
I want to trust a domain that is associated to us but in a different city. Both domains are function level - Windows 2003. I have administrative privileges on both domains. Let say the primary domain is main.domain.edu and the domain I want to give trust to is sub.main.domain.edu. How would I address these two domains in the trust relations when it asks for NETBIOS name.

There's a number of ways you can get that information.

One of the simplest is looking at the login screen of a workstation in both of the domains.
The drop down list of domains should just contain the netbios name.

another is logging on to a workstation in and open a command prompt.
Enter 'nbtstat -n' to list your local Netbios names.

You will need local admin rights on the box where you perform the nbtstat command

Okay. Let say for the primary side the NETBIOS is LARNET and the other domain is SIDNT. Is this what I enter in the Trust Name for NETBIOS for the two domains:

LARNET.main.domain.edu

SIDNT.sub.main.domain.edu

Domains in the same Active Directory forest already have a 2-way transitive trust. There is no need to establish a trust.

The domains are not in the same Active Directory forest.
