Trying to connect to internet using Qwest DSL/XP Pro.

By yoshi.andersen ·
Okay I am stumped! My friend just got Qwest DSL for his computer and was running AOL on it just fine! Now everything is working fine with DSL except Explorer wont display websites at all. It keeps timing out! Ive gone through the command prompt and connected to like yahoo and have checked the connection and its sending and recieving but cant connect to any website through explorer. What can I do to fix this problem? Oh, my friend said that he can use AOL on his DSL and everything works fine. But the point of the DSL was to get rid of AOL.

Have you tried a different browser like Firefox? Does the email work?

I do not know anything about AOL but have you checked the computer for spyware using a reputable anti spyware product like Microsoft Defender or Spybot Search & Destroy?

Takeover?

I have not tried to use AOL in many years so this may be old information.

Try downloading and installing FireFox. Can you get to pages?

If yes, uninstall AOL and run CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com). Run it until you get no more results from the issue clean or the registry clean. Reboot.

Open FF again. Are you still reaching websites? If yes, open IE. Can you reach the sites you just accessed in FF?

I have seen AOL tools that "took over" the system... all in the name of protecting the end user.

If this is ineffective, scan the system with a different AV and Spyscan. I like AVG Free and Ewido. www.grisoft.com.

Good Luck!
