I wonder on occasion if the prospect of going into business for myself is a plausible notion. It would seem that the competition for jobs boils down to how far away one resides as the final determinant in securing a position.
I have no aspirations for relocating closer to the 4th largest city in the U.S. We have what one would call a homestead, or estate, and the daily commute is sometimes viewed by a hiring manager as detrimental to my employment prospects.
I have been considering theprospect of going into business supporting clients and companies in the county in which I reside. I may decide to begin writing a novel, or possibly work on my Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems.
It almost seems a worthwhile notion to abandon the IT profession altogether and begin a new career in a totally different field that will ensure at least five to ten years of gainful employment. Should one just give up in the face of market tension and try something else, or hope that the layoffs will reverse?
