Tuning TCP/IP parameters on your network

By btafrifa ·
Could anyone recommend how I could fine tune TCP/IP parameters on my network to make efficient use of my bandwith? Also information on white papers on this topic would be very much appreciated?

Have you looked at technet for this it's there.
but the real answer is bench mark it change one thing it bench mark again compare if it's better great if not put it back.

the other idea would be to look at the traffic with a sniffer. most of them will tell you what to do from there

I agree with Pete here, using NetSniffer for NT or Distributed Sniffer from Network Associates will help to obsrver and set bench marks as you make adjustments. Also, NT has Performance Monitor (if you are on NT).

Also, be aware that Sniffing has been used for peeking into computers wrongfully. Found this article and think it quite good, http://www.faqs.org/faqs/computer-security/sniffers/.

Good luck,

Mike

Benchmark is the answer but the data TYPE is also the question, are your users using alot of DB apps or all Word doc's etc this would also help you in the inital direction.
