Turn off wireless networking in router

By jwagner45 ·
I am looking into buying a router to network some PCs. I am going to buy a wireless router with a built-in 4 port switch but for now I'm only going to use the 4 wired ports. Can I turn off the wireless networking part of the router until I can convert the PCs to wireless?

Also, can anyone suggest a reasonable priced router for this situation?

Yes/NO
Most routers have the feature where you can enable\disable broadcasting. When broadcasting is enabled the wireless card picks up the SSID and then you configure any WEP key(if applicable) in order to connect to the router. By turning disabling the broadcast you have to manually configure the wireless card by adding the SSID and adding any WEP keys(if applicable) that have been set to connect to the router.

Popular brands are D-link and Linksys.

B-type arounnd $50.00-$80.00
G-type aournd $120.00-$150.00
A-type aournd $190.00 and up
