Twain Driver issues

I tried to update the driver on my Canon N670U. As far as I can gather, everything is in place, except when I come to select the twain driver.
I get the correct window, select the only driver on the list, and then click ok. Then I get an error box saying

'Run dll as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close.'

If I was doing anything the information may be lost. Yes, I was doing something - selecting the twain. Yes, it was lost. It will not let me select the twain driver without bringing up this dll message.

Did you run the Deldrv utility form Canon prior to installing the new driver?

If not, run the deldrv utility, reboot at least once with the scanner NOT connected.

Extract the new driver files from the archive.

Shut down.

Connect the scanner.

Boot up, and direct Windows to the folder where the driver files are.

That should take care of the problem.
