Two moniters in Win98

By tdp00re ·
I would like information on hooking up two monitors to my Windows 98 machine. Can a person use an AGP and a PCI card at the same time or does in need to be two PCI cards? Also, Iv heard of some cards that have two outputs. If so what are the better ones?

Thank you,

I have at my office one station with 2 Pci video card and one station with 1 agp and 1 PCI video card. The two station work very well. The Matrox G400 dual head have two output, the only problem is the 32m is slipt in 2 for the 2 monitor.

hope that help you :-)

Windows 98 has the capabilities to support two monitors and you can set up 1 AGP AND 1 PCI card if the slots are available.
There are a couple that will support one that is affordable is by Marvel- G400 TV around $300

The best way is to get AGP card with dual monitor support like Martox G450 dual head or wait for G800.
Other solution is to combine 1 AGP and 1 PCI graphic card. These can be tricky first you need to find two compatible graphic cards. My choice wasMatrox g200 and Matrox
Mystique but some others may do the trick. First combination is better if you can afford it Other combination two cards need two IRQ-S and two slots but you can use your old graphic card.

You can use an AGP card and PCI card at the same time.Check the manufacturers websites for information. Some cards are not able or compatible for dual monitors.

The easiest way to istall the cards is:
1) Install AGP graphincs card first.
2) Install PCI card second.

Next time you start windows you should get a message saying you have successfully installed dual monitors. You now have to select which monitor you wish to be the primary. Do this through display settings.

This is a long winded way of installing the cards, but can save time in the long run.
