Two networks, one laptop

By jcox303 ·
Help! The president would like to have a docking station in his office, tied into the LAN like normal client. And would also like to gome home, pop into another docking station and use his cable modem. THe only way I think of making this happen is to dual boot his laptop. He would be setup statically in the office, and DHCP from cable router at home. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Have a look at Net Switcher (http://www.netswitcher.com). I use this utility to move between different clients networks and I've never had a problem.
I think it will work well for you in this situation.

I don't understand why he need the static IP in the office. If you have DHCP and he use the same dock, you can add his MAC address into reservation list.

Client must be issued a statis IP due to third party software requirments.

I have number of clients who have this requirements. We did it much simpler - we installed 2 NIC in the computer - one for use at home and another - in the office. Then we disabled one in one hardware profile and another in second. For users who have one PCMCIA slot we bought USB LAN Card and they use it at home.

Good luck.

Which OS is he using?

Are you using DHCP in your office? If yes, do you know how to add reservation list?
