Mavis Beacons Typing Tutor is quite good, do you really need to buy a commercial app though try looking at http://www.download.com for “typing” and downloading a freeware app.

I had to buy some typing software for a
company where I worked once. I settled on
Macmillan’s “Typing Tutor”. It was actually
quite a hit because it allowed everyone to
create their own profile and track their
individual progress, and had some fun games
      in it. Good price, too.

I think you should look into getting “Mavis Beacon Typing Deluxe”.I used it to learn how to type and it’s pretty good if you use it regularly.
Free typing tutors are not the best as they’re either trial versions or even if free they won’t really bring out the best in you.

We had used Mavis Beacon for years but have recently switched to Ainsworth Keyboard trainer. You can download a trial version at http://www.qwerty.com/. We have found it effective for our technician students who have little typing background.
