I have an HP nx7400 with an Intel graphics chip. I have tried every solution that I can find to get the desktop to extend onto my 19″ Dell widescreen with only partial success. The recommended res for the laptop monitor is 1280×800 and the Dell is 1600×1200. The Intel chip supports both but the Dell will not go above 1280×800 and the desktop will not extend. I can clone them and of course the res will be the same, but when I try to use just the Dell it will not go any higher on the res either. I have tried many alterations and none will allow the desktop to be extended or allow the Dell to go over 1280×800.
I would appreciate very much any help offered. I really want to run Ubuntu on this laptop but if I can’t figure this out I will have to go back to Windows. Everything else work great.
