Ubuntu works on Dell Dimension 1100, not on other PC.

By linux152 ·
The Ubuntu live CD gets to the Opening screen on this home built pc. I can't get it to pass that stage. I make my selection to (1)start, (2)Safe Graphics Mode, or(3)Check CD, and it runs some info up off the screen, then to a blinding halt.
Displays the message below:
[40.318377] <0> Kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init!

(1)What's that mean?
(2)How do I get around that.

The live CD takes me all the way to utilizing the graphics desktop and sample software available to use on the Dell Dimension 1100.

Heres the kicker. The dell does not meet requirements to run Solaris 10, or Vista as is! But, the box that can't get pass (step 1) meets all requirements for both Solaris and Vista...

Live CD vs Alternate CD

by statykserver In reply to Ubuntu works on Dell Dime ...

Have you tried using the alternate cd for your install? If you are having problems with the live cd then maybe you will have better luck with the alternative cd.

Also see what messages you get before this happens and your problem will be easier identified and someone will be able to help you further.
