Umax 2400s Scanner will not scan under N

By gifts ·
As I test Umax 2400s Scanner I get divide by zero exception error. I have had several Techs look at it. the first test finds that scanner is ok. The drivers are running in divices are running. But when I try to do a test scan it comes back with a divide by 0 error. I am operating under NT4 and have a Gateway GP7-450 with zip drive, CD RW, CD R,. I am using scanner a a stand alone on have not tied it to the network.

Can you try it on a machine that is not using so many resources already?
Also, have you checked the mfrs web site for updates and patches?
Have you tried using a program such as Photoshop or Corel, aprogram other than what comes with the scanner, to scan a document?

There could be many reasons, but my bet goes to possible lack of resources...

Good Luck!

The first thing I would check is to see if it is on the NT Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) in the particular configuration you are using (particularly the interface type).

Then you can pay a visit to the Umax site to see if there is a specific NT driver for it.
The divide by zero error is almost certainly a driver issue of some kind.

Check ports to see if any two devices are competing with another. Check IRQ's if there are any device conflicts. Check event viewer to see if the error has been written there. Many of my problems have been solved by checking the event log. Hope that helps.

If your scanner is plugged into a parallel port, it will not work. Try a different interface. NT handles LPT ports differently than Win9x in that there are no software interrupts assigned to them...

You failed to advise if the scanner has parallel or SCSI interface to your Gateway.

I suspect that it is a parallel-port configuration and maybe you have it "daisy-chain" with the rest of your zip drive, CD RD/R, plus the printer at the end! If this is so, then first uninstall first UMAX software and drivers, reboot. Then connect only the UMAX and printer. Reinstall driver and software.

Whether a scanner is parallel or SCSI based, it should not matter on an NT machine, server or WS.

Hope this helps!
