Un restrict the floppy drive

This floppy, and I will bet my cotton socks, has been locked from BIOS. If not, spend $5 to $10 and buy a new floppy drive.

you say that the floppy works fine in another pc,so i am guessing that u used a different floppy cable?try this cable in ur pc,you have to make sure ur floppy is set to 1.44 in the bios and that the disk ur reading is a good disk and if all this fails as the other poster say get a new floppy drive.

Good luck
ps,
do u really have a copy of win98 on floppy??

before changing anything check if floppy light is flashing for some seconds when booting up. in bios you must set floppy to a:1.44.
if light will stay turn around cable. pin1 on each end to red cable. if you cannot determine this on drive just turnaround cable.
if the following does not work, clean all contacts with brush and alcohol. if it does not work: exchange cable and buy new drive(maybe old one is still intact so you can keep in reserve). test old drive first as follows:

in dos: write format a: /f:1.44 /u

be sure to buy new floppy disks.

if all fails, also with new items its time to check pc for virus. use new norton system works or antivirus cd. its bootable. dont forgat to change first boot device to cd-rom and changeback at the end. keep in mind:if you use this method and not in windows: if virus is newer than cd-production it will not detect. so you will need actual virus-definitions using live-update.

if you have check this you will certainly have access. if not, i guess floppy controller is defective and board must be exchanged. i have never had this problem. its rather unlikely.

ooh: i forgot to tell: if you have success when exchanging drive then old one could need precise cleaning. could butneed not be easy task. i have never bought a new one, i do pc-recycling. almost none get defective by cleaning procedure.
