Help....

I was using dual boot Windows XP/ Redhat Linux on my machine all this while till I decided to delete off the Linux partition with Partition Magic. After deleting all the Linux related partition. I went to reboot my system and I can never boot into the windows again. The system stop at command screen with GRUB>. I believe I've accidently delete off the boot sector in Linux partition.
Can anyone pls. help for an advice of how can I recover my Windows Boot Image and have Windows XP running again..

Thanks a lot for the pending help..

Regards,

Net Maverick.

i am guessing you've already tried an 'in-place' upgrade (installing xp 'on top' of your current system installation which we would expect repair the boot partition).
so if that didnt' work you may have to recreate the partition manually and try installing a 'utility' copy of xp there to create the boot entry.
can you see it with Recovery Console?
maybe fixmbr on the RC would recreate the boot stuff then fixboot would make you a new boot.ini

The fixmbr and fixboot did not really help..
It shows Unable to find Operating System when try to boot after running this 2 commands.

maverick , this is tricky and doesn't always yield the expected result. I would say you need to activate the windows partition to boot . you can do it in two ways . either through linux utils or by booting dos and using dos utils , since your file sys is ntfs second may not work . If all fail , put in a new disk and install xp on it . then put in the non-bootable disk as second disk and FIRST save your old data . then with this configuration try to make the boot sector of second ( non bootable ) disk back to boot with xp utils.( could bethird party )

You can try to get out of your problematic Hard disk and fix it as slave on other system which is running on XP pro with NTFS. You will be able to see the partition of your Problematic hard disk. Now take the backup on the other Hard disk from the problematic one.

Now you can wipe out whole partition which you have on problematic harddisk. Then again fix it in to your first system then start it again Partitioning like new harddisk and install the OS on it. and again take it to the other system as slave and take bake your data on original hard disk.

Good luck. and whatever the solution you get please post it on site again.
