Unable to Browse the Network

by 3dad . Updated 25 years, 4 months ago

This question is a continuance of the previous two I’ve listed. This is a Win 95 machine, no matter what changes are made I get the message “Unable to Browse the Network.” I set up a peer to peer between the problem machine(Dell Optiplex GXa – Win 95) and a Dell Latitude CP (Win 98) using a crossover cable. From the latitude I can see the problem machine & all shares. On the problem machine, no matter what changes are made in the network properties, I get “Unable to Browse the Network.” I’ve verified adapters, services, & protocols over & over, verified the domain name, removed the NT Domain logon from both machines. I’ve disabled the integrated NIC & replaced it with a known working NIC. When attempting to sign on to the company network, “The domain password you supplied is not correct, or access to your logon server has been denied.” I disable logon to NT domain, logon is apparently successful, but still “Unable to browse the network. Even if this machine is not physically connected to a network, and I sign on(no NT domain), the machine should see itself in network neighborhood. We are using a DSL for internet access, and this works on the problem machine, even with DNS disabled. The IP Address is OK as I can ping this machine from our server, and I can ping the server from this machine.
Any suggestions? (different or upgrade to the OS not an option)
