Unable to Connect to Another XP Computer

I?m unable to connect to another XP Computer on my home network using \\computername. On the PC that will not allow the connection, I?m currently logged in with an account that is password protected and is an Admin. I reran the Network Setup Wizard and also repaired the Network Connection. Here?s the error message I receive on the PC that is trying to connect: Windows cannot find ?\\xp?. Check the spelling and try again, or try searching for the item by clicking the Start button and then clicking Search. However, I can PING the computer called XP but can?t connect to it. The XP PC can connect to other computers on the network but will not let other connect to it. Dose anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

I had a similar problem once, and to be honest I’m not sure exactly what “fixed” it.

I went into the MMC Services, and in one of those settings there you can allow/deny remote access to the machine. Make sure that is turned on “automatic”. Of course at the time, I turned on/off a couple other features such as messenger and such. I’m not sure which one exactly fixed the issue, but it did.

I matched up the Sevices settings with the other computer and the settings are the same. My Desktop (XP Pro) still will not connect to my work Laptop (XP Pro). However, my desktop can connect to the laptop without any problems.

I disabled the Windows Firewall and I’m still unable to connect.

Fixed Remote Desktop Connection Issue on Win XP

I removed the Corporate Symantec Software and viola it works… not sure why but now I see.
