Unable to copy images

By keepbelieving ·
Hi All:
I am running Windows XP. I believe my MS Office is "97 - 2002" My problem is that when I copy or save as any image from the Internet to paste in a document, it does not show. If I click on where I think the image is on the doc. It shows the place holders, but not the image. Instead, I get a message that reads:
click ctrl + the image to go to the link.
What can I do to remedy this matter?

Thanks for any input.

To know which version of your Office product you are running, in Word (for example), go to Help menu and click on "About Microsoft Word".
When you right click on an image, you can gen various options, "save image as", "copy", "copy direct access", and if the image is also a link to somewhere else: "save destiny as" (third option starting from the top). I suppose you have this problem when copying straight forward to the Word document. If you "save image as" to your hard disk, and then insert the image via (in Word) Insert-->Image-->From disk ?does it still do the same?. If it does, you probably have Word configured not to display images (to save memory for example).

When I insert a Clipart Image or an image From File, you cannot see the image. If you click on where it is meant to be, a box appears round it but if you right click the link to Format Object is greyed out. The only way you can see the image or gain access to the Format Object is by entering into Print Preview. If you then make any changes to this image, when you exit Print Preview the Image disappears and the sentence "Embed Word Object" is left.

Does anyone know how I can get this sorted please? I have uninstalled Office 2002 and used the Completely remove office files program and then reinstalled Office 2002 but it is still doing the same thing.

Many Thanks

O.K. You are talking about a 2 step process here.
1. You are in Explorer, you right click and click on "Save Picture As..." Save it either as jpg or gif as the case may be. Remember where you save it to. I use C:\temp01 for all such saves. Open Explorer to the directory and make sure you got what you think you did. In XP you can go to the file, right click and clickon Preview.
(note: if you use Netscape it is "save image as...")
2. Open or create a Word file. Place the cursor where you want it to go. Then go to Menu>>Insert>>Picture>>From File
This opens a dialog box so you can find your picture, either .jpg or .gif Select the file, and click on Insert. Voila' the picture should appear in your document. It can then be resized right there without opening another package. lol - Bill

If you are draging the image from the webpage you are getting the link information,

Right Click on the web image and select Save Picture As

Then use the saved picture for your Word documents.

Good Luck Lee
