Unable to delete folders

By cfrank01 ·
I restored some folders from tape backup and I am unable to access the contents of these folders on Win XP. When I tried to delete them, I get the message "Unable to delete folder: Access denied" How can I delete these folders?

Login to the system with an account with administrative privileges.

Navigate to the folder.

Right click and choose Properties.

Click the security tab.

Click Add.

Add the user account which shoukld have rights and click OK.

Highlight the account in the text scrool box and then choose whatever permission the user requires (this may be full control on the local system if the folder has documents or such in it).

Click Apply.

Click Ok.

Rights should be restored at this point.

In winxp you can take ownership of files and folders if you are logged on as a user with administrative permissions. Follow the directions in this ms article:

I suspect that you need to take ownership of folders. Methodology for doing so is detailed in link below.
