Unable to find files

By savforme69 ·
I have a computer that was being used by some non tech people and they had a crash. When trying to repair they went into the windows repair console and done the repair. Windows is working but now when we try to locate the original files they are missing but the hard drive being read by windows is stating the files are there. Is there a way to be able to read these files and get them back. There are important files and we need them badly.

When I have trouble

by The Scummy One In reply to Unable to find files

either finding the partition, or files from a Win system, I put the hdd in a USB cradle and plug it into a Linux box. Then copy it over to either a network drive, or the storage drive on said linux box.

I always think its kinda funny that MS created NTFS, but Linux reads it better...lol

Other Alternatives

Linux bypasses file permissions which eases the process. It will also mount a corrupted drive that chokes Windows.

You can boot from a live Linux CD such as Knoppix and copy files to a thumb drive or USB hard drive.

Another alternative is the UBCD4Win:
