unable to locate data after recovery using hp recovery discs.

By vikramforever ·
i have a hp pavilion dv 2002tu notebook with built in windows xp home. i created recovery discs for the same also. few days back due to system error i was forced to use the discs and reinstall windows. but the hp recovery manager gave an option of saving and installing windows which i followed. and then i reinstalled windows. but i later found out that i could only locate the softwares which were in c drive were only there out of which some were working normally and some had missing files so had to be reinstalled. but all my files were saved in the my documents, which i could not later find. but there was another discrepancy. out of 65 gb space in my c drive i find that only 21 gb used by c drive only. i opened c drive, cntrl A, right click properties and then it showed only 21 gb. but when i see the c drive in my computer it shows 61 gb used. how can this be. and i had 38 gb odd worth of data in my documents. is it the case that my precious data is saved somewhere. and if it is saved then can u plz help me retrieve it. thanks
