unable to log into windows

i am unable to log into windows, i’va already tried going to the recovery console and running chkdsk /r and repairing the registry after chkdsk, still i get error messages, what else can i do to resolve my problem with windows xp? thanks

What happens when you try to log on? Does it lock up or do you get some sort of error message?

it locks up and only gets me to the log in page and nothing more, i was not able to get any error messages…

I assume you used the CD to get to the recovery console since it’s not normally installed as a boot option. I take it you get the same error in safe mode?

I just had this type of error the other day, but it wasn’t as severe. I found are some manual ways that day to try to restore the Windows registry using the recovery console. I’ll see if I can find the link.

I have faced these kind of problem many times ever.. Even after putting correct password again it comes back to login menu..
checked in safe modes same issue… Automatic repair is the better option for these kind of problems… after pressing F8(agreement) R option to automatic repair…

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode (press F8 just before the XP splash screen). If you can get in, you may be able to find the cause of the problem in the Event Viewer.

Alternatively, System Restore may be an option.
