Unable to log unto domain

By omar.harris ·
I have recently upgraded a machine from win98 (which by they the way was able to log unto the domain) to Win2k.
The server is a win2k advance server. when I attempt to change the network properties from workgrp to domain ... the system prompt for auser and password that has the proper
access level to make the change.
I have created a machine account on the nt server but I am still unable to change the properties from workgrp to domain.

Any suggestions

Delete machine acount from the server, change the machine name, and rejion the domain. I have had the problem before and this seem to work.

I have also had this problem where the machine name needed to be deleted from the domain and readded before it could join the domain. So the above may work. If it doesn't try using the user name and password method to add it to the domain. Remember you must have the permission to add computers to the domain. Also, you need to have administrator privileges on the W2k Pro machine. Permissions in W2K are a little more restrictive than in NT, therefore Administrative permissions are needed.

Try deleting the computer from the domain at the server. Then create the domain account when you change from workgroup to domain. It takes more privs to modify an existing account than it does to create one.
