Windows 2000, Advanced Server, Terminal Services, Microsoft Office 97.
This occured late last week.
A user notified me that he ‘could not open excel files’ from the terminal server.
Upon closer inspection, opening files from within excel works fine. However, double-clicking on an XLS file in Explorer produces the following error message:

Cannot find the file ‘c:\test.xls’ (or one of it’s components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.

If I choose to ‘Open With…’ I get the normal dialog, however, the ‘always use this program to open these files’ checkbox is GREYED OUT.
If I open Explorer, choose TOOLS – FOLDER OPTIONS – FILE TYPES, the ‘NEW/DELETE/CHANGE/ADVANCED/APPLY’ boxes are ALL GREYED OUT.
I’m sure it is either one of two things:
1) A policy switch that I flipped, that I shouldn’t have (which is what I hope the problem is)
2) A corrupt registry.
If anyone knows where this policy is hidden, or what I need to do, please let me know.
