Unable to power on a Dell Optiplex 745

By sapphire705 ·
I have a Dell Optiplex 745 that will not power up. No disk or fan sounds. Power light is off and the light on the mother board is amber. When I press the power button there is a brief amber blink of light and then it stops. No beeps, no LED lights on the back. I have tried several outlets around the office and no luck. The monitor was plugged in same surge protector and showed power.

The PSU is dead, or there is a short.

You are having a hardware problem. If you aren't comfortable swapping or testing parts, or do not have the parts to do so, take it to a shop.

You could check to make sure there are no loose power connectors.

If this is a small form factor (or the even smaller form factor - slim, or whatever)745, the parts may be nonstandard, and it may be that you can only get some of them from Dell.
