Unable to remove/uninstall programs

When I go to the control panel – add/remove programs and try to uninstall a program, all the buttons are greyed out. I have tried this in my login id as well as the administrator’s login for my computer.

I have tried MS fix by reinstalling IE 6.0 but this made things worse. I got an unexpected error. I have since fixed the unexpected error, but I still cannot uninstall any programs.

Any help would be appreciated.
