Unable to repair Win95/IE/Outlook

By CTOS ·
Client has windows 95, gets hit by WORM_HYBRIS.B and .D. Internet Explorer is unable to find pages, MSN is no help since they do not support IE3 or Win95. Outlook Express is gone as well. When i try to reinstal IE version 5 that was in her machine, all .EXE is missing. Outlook Express will not reinstal and some sites will not display with the IE3, limiting where I can navigate because of JavaScript errors.
Any ideas on how to make this thing work again?

Are you able to use Windows Update? This will automatically update Internet Explorer.

No, thanks. No windows updates are available as the OS is too old. No IE updates are available as it is 5.0. And I am unable to get into the page with the system scan because the version of IE that works (3.0) is no longer suported. Tried transfering programs from a 98SE machine, but they will not work either. All the INI and EXE files were eaten by the HYBRIS worm.

As you know support for Win95 ended some time ago, so tools are few and far between anymore.
If you can wait, You can order Internet Explorer on CD ROM from Microsoft, it takes a couple of weeks though.

Win95 cannot be re-installed without formatting and starting over, which will be your last option.
Make a startup disk and boot from this floppy. format the C drive and run d:\setup.exe. good luck,
peter
