Unable to set the Windows 7 search index location
What seems to have happened is that the "disappearance" of the partition where the search index had been stored has caused Windows to "lose" the index location. What I mean is that the dialogue box that usually shows the index location, and where one would normally go about setting a new location, is blank.
(My fault I know. I had assumed I would be able to set the new location and didn't realise that Windows would object to the disappearance of the drive by removing the existing location.)
The following screenshot illustrates https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=0a3c5864e84dcfb7&resid=A3C5864E84DCFB7!248&parid=A3C5864E84DCFB7!214&authkey=!AB0LTOi0DCmsjH4
The "Select new" option is greyed out, and it is not possible to start the indexing service - presumably because there is no index. Following the troubling shooting steps doesn't help either (as it fails on the step to start the indexing service).
Any ideas? I am hoping someone will know which registry entry I can set up or change. I did look but couldn't find anything that looked relevant and didn't want to change anything based on guess work.
