Hello all, Is it possible to delete the default VLAN in the SMC TigerSwitch ? Or at least unassign if from selected ports. When I create a new VLAN (ie:VLAN 10)and assign a port to it (let's say port#:12) well, I would like port #12 to be a member of VLAN 10 only, not a member of VLAN 10 and VLAN 1. Is there a way to do this ? I've tried everything and nothing works. I've also contacted Tech support and they say it CANNOT be done but I thought I'd try TR and see.
thanks guy

Ok, I realise that I cannot delete the default VLAN but I should be able to unassign ports from it. In the Cisco switches, you can do that (unassign ports from the default VLAN).
Well there is good news, and bad news. The good news is that I did some research for you and tried to do the best I could to find the best information I could, even calling tech support for SMC on thier toll free number though I do not own an SMC product. The bad news is that because of the way that SMC is set up, they do not offer the flexibility to unassign ports as you need to do.
Yes, Cisco equipment does have that capability as do many of the other manufacturers in the industry. SMC,unfortunately did not put those sort of capabilities in the design for the VLAN apparently. All sources of information, writte, techie, forum, or otherwise were not useful in finding a solution. I think the tech support man may have been right. It may not be possible with SMC.
I know that this is not the answer that you are looking for and you probably will reject it jsut because it doesnt help you. I hate to tell you but this is the only answer you are likely to get so either assign thepoints or lose the points and never get any use from them.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
